I Hear You

Sergei Filatov
September 13 — November 13, 2022
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Triumph Gallery
In his new project, the artist offers to immerse in the subtleties of sound, stop and focus on details that are inaccessible in the context of familiar rhythms and flows.
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Triumph Gallery present Sergei Filatov’s exhibition "I Hear You". In his new project, the artist offers to immerse in the subtleties of sound, stop and focus on details that are inaccessible in the context of familiar rhythms and flows.

Sergey Filatov works at the intersection of several genres. He creates sound sculptures, kinetic installations, musical instruments, as well as performances. Technological and rigorous his works stillcall upon sensibility and empathy of the audience. The artist explores the nature and acoustic features of sounds and thinks about how they are perceived. This is a broad subject, and in each exhibition Sergey Filatov finds new solutions. He creates architecture that reflects different aspects of sound and listening, depending on the specifics of the place and the surroundings.

"I Hear You" project presents new and iconic works of the artist, and their sound opens up according to the acoustics and the peculiarities of the space. Sound is considered as a special substance that is physically created and transmitted through resonating objects. Filatov’s main body of work is about the nature of various metal alloys. The artist discovers the principles of sound extraction, which reveal the new potential of surrounding elements. The installations and sculptures at the exhibition show how sound is generated in real time — through the movement and contact of objects, as the effect of a magnetic field.

I Hear You is a space of dialogue: the visitor interacts with sound, which, in turn, is connected to their presence. The works engage several perceptual levels at once, transforming the experience of the space, as well as creating its own environment and temporality. As you move through the exhibition, you encounter a variety of sonic and visual nuances. Gradually they come together in a sensitized and multifaceted world.
