Triumph Gallery and the Yandex Books service present the project 100 Covers of Classics by 100 Yandex Designers. The exhibition brings together covers created by Yandex designers and works by contemporary artists.
The covers emerged as part of a Yandex Books project, for which designers from various departments of the company reinterpreted classic literary works and created unique illustrations for them. Later, Triumph Gallery expanded the project by involving contemporary artists. New works by Maxim Savva, Misha Nikatin, Sofia Akimova, Liza Glushkova, and Kirill Ashastin draw on literary classics while also taking inspiration from the contemporary visual environment. By synthesizing these elements, the artists explore the boundaries between word and image, between canon and experiment, offering at times paradoxical visual solutions.

Since the 17th century, printers have paid special attention to book covers, designing them using meticulous techniques and rare materials, treating them as a form of refined craftsmanship and a way to emphasize particular nuances of a literary work. In the 20th century, an entire genre emerged—the artist’s book, or livre d’artiste—which is considered a standalone work of art fully designed by the author. With the development of mass publishing, print runs increased, and new technologies were increasingly applied to book design. Over time, the cover evolved into an independent artistic statement that complements and illustrates the literary content.

Today, a book cover serves not only as an illustration of the book’s content but also as an important element of image and identity. In a culture dominated by visuals, books are often used as objects of cultural consumption and markers of taste, while covers become a decisive factor in choosing a particular edition. Books have become part of their owners' symbolic capital—a sign of cultural awareness, intellectual level, and social status—and can function as markers of identity and independent statements in their own right.

The project at Triumph Gallery affirms the value of an artistic and illustrative approach to books. Each cover is an independent work capable of expanding the perception of a text, revealing hidden meanings, or raising new questions. Placed within the broader context of contemporary art and the practices of individual artists, literary classics acquire new shades and interpretations.
