An important part of the project is dedicated to the journeys of Nicholas I of Russia along the Tsarskoye Selo Railway. Initially regarded as a "royal amusement," it was through the firm will of the emperor that the first 26 kilometers of track laid the foundation for the railway network of modern Russia. The exhibition brings together archival documents, rare book editions, historical maps, paintings and engravings, costumes, and models of steam locomotives from museum collections, libraries, and state archives. The story of the creation of the country’s first passenger railway is further complemented by multimedia installations. The
Royal Amusement project unites exhibitions of the same name at the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia (from November 3) and the Russian Railway Museum (from November 2).
The general partner of the project is Russian Railways.
