Architectonics

Maksim Ksuta
February 26 — March 20, 2022
Triumph Gallery
The upcoming show offers a contemplative and consistent, almost lab-like examination of the techniques and effects that are of interest to the artist.
Triumph Gallery presents Architectonics, an exhibition dedicated to the work of Maksim Ksuta and bringing together several series by the artist. The upcoming show offers a contemplative and consistent, almost lab-like examination of the techniques and effects that are of interest to the artist.

Central to Ksuta’s oeuvre is the link between the particular and the abstract. In The Expulsion series, the dense calligraphy and lettering produce emergent anthropomorphic figures; in the CY photo series, natural objects are freely assembled into natural abstractions. In The Horizons, a new series of canvases, Ksuta transforms brain waves as seen on EEG recordings into eerie mountainscapes.

Reminiscent of the works by Pierre Soulages, Ksuta’s canvases from the Techtonic Painting series resemble abstract landscapes of sand dunes and futuristic cities. Monochrome and created with a continuous textured stroke, they interact with the surrounding lighting and the viewer’s gaze. Light interferes and refracts on the surfaces of paintings depending on the angle of view, creating the appearance of a moving stream. As a result, the viewer becomes either a test subject or an accomplice of the artist’s experiments.

The Shards of Memory series of objects features small, tabletop sculptures that emanate traits of monumental and even grand pieces. Carved in different stone varieties, these are almost like uncovered ancient artefacts, partially submersed in sand and partially washed out by time.

Maxim Ksuta’s work provides the viewer with a remarkable experience of mindful being, an evenly paced, lived moment in all its fullness, purity, and uniqueness. Architectonics virtually transports one into a Japanese Zen Garden, intended for meditation and connection with nature.
