The Wild Underground

Danya Pirogov
February 21 — March 16, 2025
Gallery “Triumph”
The exhibition will bring together works created in various techniques, with the core of the display consisting of objects that incorporate and reinterpret familiar construction materials.
Triumph Gallery presents a solo project by Danya Pirogov titled "Wild Underground." The exhibition brings together works created in various techniques, with the core of the display consisting of objects that incorporate and reinterpret familiar construction materials.

"Wild Underground" is a visual reflection on images of elemental force that can be felt and recreated by immersing oneself in the depths of the earth or one’s own inner self. As an artist with an architectural background, Pirogov pays particular attention to form—it often guides the meaning of his works. For example, a shell-like element, recurring in several pieces, becomes a central motif in contemplating the underground abyss.

The two primary materials in the exhibition—concrete and plywood—have different life cycles. They are both ephemeral and enduring at the same time, turning the artistic process into a cyclical one: while Pirogov creates new objects, elements of previous works may already be decomposing in the ground. The process of making resembles an experimental performance: the artist breaks plywood into fragments, scratches paint, sculpts with concrete, and creates objects that do not exist in nature.
The exhibition conveys the repetitiveness of natural processes. Visitors can begin at any point and move through the space in a circular path—from formless chaos to the emergence of form, its structuring, transformation, and rebirth into something unified and immensely powerful.
