Deep Waters

Yulia Fedotova
October 20 — November 13, 2023
Triumph Gallery
Sculpture as an artwork emerges from direct contact and its energy, and is quite literally "sealed" within the forms that come into being.
Triumph Gallery presents Deep Waters, a solo exhibition by the sculptor Yulia Fedotova (ULAFONBERBER project). The artist’s Greek roots and academic training have shaped her commitment to classical realism. At the same time, she feels a strong affinity with the philosophy of Yungdrung Bön, a Tibetan spiritual tradition oriented toward achieving happiness and well-being through the attainment of absolute freedom.

Yulia Fedotova’s works fill the space, carrying within them the artist’s energy and worldview. Sculpture, as an artwork, emerges from direct contact and its energy, and is quite literally "sealed" within the forms that come into being. It begins to resonate in space like a tuning fork, responding through its images and meanings, attuning us to their depth, harmony, and multiplicity.

Deep Waters is the central work of the series. A young monk lies on a wooden pier, intently gazing into the dark waters, contemplating the hidden world within them. This world resembles the depths of our inner self and is inhabited by all kinds of creatures. Graceful fish evoke a sense of calm, freedom, and serenity; yet in the darkness of the depths, predators also dwell, carrying a threat to harmony and tranquility. Deep Waters serves as a metaphor for the inner world—one that, when contemplated, can reveal many unexpected things.
