Out of the Fire

Sergey Kuznetsov
February 8 — February 26, 2023
Lutheran Church of Saint Anne
In buildings from different parts of the world, the artist finds an endless source of inspiration and a unique experience that can be relived with each encounter.
On February 8, a solo exhibition by the artist and Chief Architect of Moscow, Sergey Kuznetsov, titled Out of the Fire, will open at the Annenkirche. As part of the new project, the artist will present twelve large-scale works created in charcoal on cardboard. The choice of medium is not accidental—the material itself is "born of fire," just like the walls that temporarily house the works during the exhibition.

The central protagonist of Kuznetsov’s works is, of course, architecture. In buildings from different parts of the world, the artist finds an endless source of inspiration and a unique experience—one that can be rediscovered with each encounter. This experience is inevitably renewed when architecture is approached each time with a different perspective and a new mode of engagement.

"One of the points of connection with the Annenkirche is fire. We often tend to associate the uncontrollable nature of this element with destruction and disaster. In the history of Annenkirche, however, fire has left a unique imprint, becoming an integral part of the building’s structure—and this experience is truly singular," comments Sergey Kuznetsov.
