The Lake Is Calm Again

Anna Bystrova
August 16 – September 15, 2024
Gallery "Triumph"
The subjects of Anna’s works are based on the depiction of natural phenomena, the energy of nature, and a deep inner connection with it, while the visual foundation of the project is formed by the artist’s distinctive botanical ornament.
Triumph Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Anna Bystrova, The Lake Is Calm Again. The subjects of Anna’s works are built around the depiction of natural phenomena, the energy of nature, and a deep inner connection with it, while the visual foundation of the project is formed by the artist’s distinctive botanical ornament.

The new paintings function as the artist’s diary, in which she documents a process of self-discovery and the search for "her own lake." "For me, it is a search for my true self. To find and accept yourself as you are — vulnerable, sometimes quick-tempered, perhaps even kind, multifaceted — and to live in harmony with yourself, to change, to move forward," Anna explains.

The artist’s biography is closely tied to her experience of life in the wild. Living under the open sky, swimming in icy lakes, northern berries, campfires, and lingonberry leaves brewed in a thermos — all of this forms a path of reflection on one’s place between civilization and nature. After long journeys, Anna chose her old family dacha as a permanent home, where she now lives and works.

Bystrova’s paintings so atmospherically convey morning mist, dawn, and the dense dampness of swamps that the boundary between the canvases seems to dissolve. They envelop the viewer with their documentary quality and mystery. The exhibition resembles a journey along forest paths, where one must eventually warm up by a fire. The exhibition design features the color "Northern Blueberry," which serves as a unifying element for both displays.
