Summer in the Leningrad Region

Maxim Savva
May 24 — June 26, 2024
Gallery "Triumph"
The subjects of Savva’s works are deeply personal, yet familiar and resonant for everyone. His characters move from one piece to another, forming entire series around themselves.
"Many have probably heard about our northern summer — that it resembles a caricature of southern winters. Very short-lived, and just as rare as a Parisian woman in the library of the city of Vyborg."

Triumph Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Maxim Savva, Summer in the Leningrad Region. The project brings together paintings and graphic works from recent years. The subjects of Savva's works are deeply personal, yet familiar and resonant for everyone. His characters move from one piece to another, forming entire series around themselves. These may be fictional or historical figures, embodiments of the artist himself, people from his окружение, and even Maxim’s dog, Madame Lebowski. This multitude of images resembles an old photo album, preserving vivid, sentimental, and timeless moments.

The artist’s manner is distinguished by its lightness and ease. The brushstrokes appear weightless, semi-transparent, sketch-like, yet at the same time precise and confident. Savva allows the paint to move freely within the composition, influencing its final form. This inner freedom is even more evident in his graphic works, where dynamic contour lines are combined with deliberately loose hatching and bold contrasting spots.

Maxim Savva’s works naturally create an atmosphere around the viewer in which it seems warm and comforting even in the coldest times. Standing before his works, the viewer is given the opportunity to be themselves — sincere, vulnerable, and open to all their emotions and expressions.
