LANDSCAPE WITH HOUSES

Alexander Brodsky Jr.
July 9 — August 1, 2021
Triumph Gallery
A series of Brooklyn landscapes have been created by the artist over the course of 2020, day by day, in a world frozen in uncertainty, in the time that stopped, and there, many of us have to face ourselves.
Triumph Gallery presents Landscape with Houses, the exhibition of Alexander Brodsky Jr. featuring over 40 watercolours, etchings and videos. A series of Brooklyn landscapes have been created by the artist over the course of 2020, day by day, in a world frozen in uncertainty, in the time that stopped, and there, many of us have to face ourselves. In his work, Alexander looks at the space of the metropolis and its landscape, changing elusively. There, familiar corners of houses, bridges and streets lose their seeming constancy along with the weather and changing focus of the observer. The artist captures elusive transition states that are devoid of signs of time, bustle and overt human presence. The series consists of chamber works created in watercolour — a genre that facilitates conveying the moment and the first emotion most accurately.

In the works of Alexander Brodsky Jr. the cityscape, be it Moscow or New York, hardly says much about the city, it rather conveys the author’s own perception of the world. The artist creates his own space composed intuitively, divested of the city traffic and noise, devoid of all signs of time; plunging into that space we not only see, we perceive the world throw this new medium.

The exhibition Landscape with Houses can be viewed as the artist’s personal diary, where Brodsky Jr. captured the city’s image and his own inner state throughout the year; a mental map made of impressions and personal perception of the urban space.
