Yosman Botero Gomez: Art has always been present in my life, even though I am the only artist in my family.
I have always had my own vision of reality that goes beyond mere contemplation. This is what has shaped my passion for drawing. After deciding to develop my potential, I enrolled at the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia, where I was able to bring my ideas to life thanks to the excellent teaching staff. Art has always been a world of endless possibilities for me. And I took the chance given to me, devoting myself to the study of processes, meanings and various concepts, as well as to the knowledge of various techniques and materials that allowed me to explore various aspects of art.

My first painting experiments relate to the series of works "Absent /Empty". They are paintings painted in acrylic on a frame. In their performance, I focused on the play of light, on how it shapes space. We are talking about night urban landscapes, depicted as if from the outside, and each glowing dot indicates a human presence. After that, I began to divide the paintings into separate layers and, using plexiglass, transform these spaces into an atmosphere, turning the paintings into ambiguous, blurred landscapes. Based on a trip from my hometown of Cucuta to Medellin, where I studied, I recreated and combined the mental images of the two cities.

The series "Common Things" is my reflection on the feeling of emptiness of modern art. In this series, I chose the visitors of an art gallery as the main element, portraying them in an empty space, thus hinting at the problem of modernity. As the Italian philosopher Nicola Abbagnano said, "the existence of emptiness is one of the fundamental theorems within the concept of space as a container for objects." The photographic nature and irony of these works make us think about the crisis of modern aesthetic perception and its disappearance, leaving us perplexed as we analyze a common event in the world of art, an art exhibition. Viewers are pretentious, expressing their admiration for what they see. In my other works, I depict the same temporary nature of the viewer, reduced to the disappearance of their presence. Malevich said that it is impossible to depict reality, that there are no perfect images, and that everything boils down to emptiness.
