X.TEN

Alexander Vinogradov
and Vladimir Dubosarsky
November 1 — November 18, 2012
Mystetskyi Arsenal
The Triumph Gallery, as part of the ART KYIV contemporary art forum, will present a special program at the Mystetskyi Arsenal — an exhibition of the famous creative tandem of Alexander Vinogradov and Vladimir Dubosarsky.
"X. Ten" are four key projects by Vinogradov and Dubosarsky, brought together for the first time: Danger! Museum (2009), "On the District" (2010), "For Courage" (2011) and "Retrospective" (2012). This is a kind of result of a decade of artists' work, where viewers will be able to see well-known and beloved plots of the "glamorous" noughties and the poetics of reality in recent years.

In 2009, the project Danger! The museum was shown as part of the parallel program of the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art. In this series, the artists talk about the secret life of an imaginary museum, which usually does not catch the eye of visitors. Vinogradov and Dubosarsky synthesize Renaissance, avant-garde, and mass media figures in their monumental paintings. The texture of the huge canvases and the smell of paint still remain attributes of high art and refer to the legacy of Raphael, Tintoretto, Durer, Veronese, Leonardo, Titian, Rembrandt and other great masters of the past. But then a surprise awaits the viewer — while he is studying the paintings, the canvases, in turn, are watching him with the help of built-in video cameras.

In the series "On the District", in addition to stray dogs and ordinary residents of Khimki, popular Russian and Hollywood stars also became residents of the Moscow suburbs. Russian heroes of the panorama "For Courage" - Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, appear against the background of the river, but this is not the Volga of the Russian birch paradise, but the cold Styx separating the world of the living from the realm of oblivion of Hades. The Retrospective project brings together paintings by artists who were not completed at different times and for this reason were not presented to the public. According to the artists, realizing at some point their responsibility to their unfinished works, they decided to breathe new life into "creative failures."A documentary film by Evgeny Mitta and Alexander Shein "Vinogradov and Dubosarsky: a painting to order" will be broadcast in a special area of the exhibition.
