A Star Is Born in a Cloud

Evgenia Dudnikova
June 2 — July 9, 2023
Triumph Gallery
The artist’s works resemble portals to parallel worlds: the boundary separating reality from an otherworldly space becomes so elusive that the viewer is able to move endlessly between them.
Triumph Gallery presents A Star Is Born in a Cloud, a solo exhibition by Evgenia Dudnikova. The artist’s works resemble portals to parallel worlds: the boundary separating reality from an otherworldly space becomes so elusive that the viewer is able to move endlessly between them.

In her practice, Evgenia reflects on the essence of things and seeks connections between phenomena. Her visual language is marked by the richness and multidimensionality of imagery, often rooted in nature. The artist’s affinity for the natural world сформировалась in childhood and later became a key component of her artistic practice. "In composing each work, Dudnikova constructs a kind of visual puzzle from vivid and distinctive images; by deciphering them, one can grasp the essence of things—or compose one’s own version of reality," notes the project’s curator, Polina Mogilina.

Moving through the exhibition, the viewer experiences, on the one hand, the passage of a full day—from early morning to late night—and, on the other, the cycle of the seasons, from spring to winter. This sense of "circularity" is achieved through the sequential unfolding of the works' narratives, as well as through the use of tonal color. The pictorial compositions are accompanied by short curatorial essays, which create a parallel narrative line and expand the viewer’s sensory experience.
